Newness

There is something about a newness of a person or thing that intrigues our minds and excites our emotions. We just experienced the newness of another year on January 1st, 2023, and all around the earth, people celebrated this newness of time. No doubt, the Year 2023 brought a new season for new beginnings, new opportunities, and new connections. I believe the Year 2023 will be brand-new better than your Year 2022, and years prior. I believe relationships with families, friends, and others will have a freshness, brightness, and a newness of life and spirit. People will see you and wonder, “Is that really you? Because there is something different, something wonderful, something beautiful, and something marvelous about you with Newness.”

The fact that God has kept us alive to experience this newness indicates that it is a season for greater and better. No one should be expecting failure, worry, calamity, or bitterness more than success, joy, peace, and happiness in this season. There should be a newness of life to pursue your dreams, goals, and endeavors. There should be a newness of spirit with a grace of gratitude, peace of mind, calmness of spirit, wholeness of health, and contentment of soul in this season.

With the promises of these new doors, options, opportunities, and possibilities, I challenge you to let go of past failures, unwholesome emotions, hindering habits, and rash reactions. I challenge you to embrace newness without the fear of failure, the doubt of the unknown, or any discomfort of change. Let us perceive newness with a mindset of learners and leaders, and not with an old mentality of losers and laggers, in this season of newness.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions on Newness.

What is the meaning of Newness?

The word, “Newness” means the quality of being new or introduced as original. Some synonyms for Newness are freshness, novelty, unused, and originality.

What is the difference between newness and brand-newness?

While “Newness” is the quality of being new, fresh, unused, novel, and original; the term “Brand-newness” means the same as newness but with less time in existence and familiarity. Brand-newness implies freshly made, hot off the press, just released, and like breaking news happening right now for the first time!

What are some experiences with Newness?

Many people have different reactions to newness based on age, background, personality, expectations, experiences, and willingness to explore something new. Whether it is a car, house, clothes, the release of a movie or album, vacation, cuisine, technology, school, friend, relationship, job, city, or opportunity, while some people are optimistic, others are pessimistic just as much about the same newness.

How does the Bible define “Newness”?

The Bible defines “Newness” with the Greek Word, Kainotes (spelled K A I N O T E S). The word Kainotes comes from the root word, “Kainos”, which means recently made, fresh, unused, unworn as well as of a new kind, unprecedented, novel, uncommon, unheard of. That is, Newness in the Bible means uncommon, unusual, unpredictable, unparallel, and unprecedented.

Now let us go straight to the scriptures to shape and sharpen our thought process on Newness. While there are many verses on the word, ‘New’, there are only two verses on the word, “Newness”. I hope they will bless you, strengthen you, encourage your faith journey, and give you peace, as God has promised in His word.

May God add His blessings to the reading and hearing of His Holy Word. Amen.

Romans 6:4, Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Firstly, God wants us to walk in newness of life, as Jesus did. God wants us to abandon old ways, and progress beyond bad habits. God wants us to make full use of the opportunities to conduct our lives with newness, as Jesus did.

After the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, He lived and walked on Earth for an additional 40 days to exemplify the newness of life to His disciples to show there is hope of abundant life, Zoey life, and eternal life.

To walk in newness of life isn’t reserved for saints and angels alone in Heaven, but for believers here and now on Earth. We don’t have to wait on death, resurrection or the rapture to experience this newness of life. The newness of life starts with the born-again experience and is symbolized by the baptismal experience.

God has given to everyone, who humbled oneself, turned from wicked ways, and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, this opportunity to walk in newness of life! Yes, we can walk in newness of life.

Romans 7:6, But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Secondly, God wants us to serve in newness of spirit. God wants us to serve in the new way of living in the Spirit. As spiritual beings, God wants us to obey the moving, guiding, and leading of the Holy Spirit as we serve in newness of spirit, as Jesus did.

God doesn’t want us to quench, grieve or blaspheme against the Holy Spirit of God. God has given to everyone, who humbled oneself, turned from wicked ways, and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, this opportunity to serve in newness of spirit! Yes, we can serve in newness of spirit.

Points to Remember

Furthermore, the words of Jesus Christ spoken and written in the Scriptures for us are spirit, and they are life. I believe we can personally walk in newness of life, and publicly serve in newness of spirit. I believe that God has given us the Holy Spirit to position us with the newness of Kainos anointing to be authentic, genuine, and pure. The Kainos anointing equips us for the uncommon, the unusual, the unpredictable, the unprecedented, and the unparallel experiences. Therefore,

  • In Your Season of Newness, Believe God will bless your life with the uncommon, the unusual, the unpredictable, the unparallel, and the unprecedented.
  • In Your Season of Newness, Be willing to walk with individual integrity privately, and to serve with occupational obligation publicly.
  • In Your Season of Newness, Appreciate the joy of every new blessing, and appropriate the jitters of every new testing, knowing all things work together for good, and you are growing as things are changing.
  • In Your Season of Newness, we can say, “Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ, for helping me to walk in newness of life, and showing me how to serve in newness of spirit in Jesus’ Name. Amen?”

Now let us pray:

Lord Jesus, Thank You for new mercies every day. Thank You for blessing us and for being with us throughout the Year 2022, and for bringing us into the newness of the Year 2023. Lord, help us to let go of fears and failures, unwholesome emotions, hindering habits, and rash reactions. O Holy Spirit, we need You to keep our spirit fresh, alive, and renewed. So Holy Spirit, create in us a new heart, a renewed mind, and a right spirit. Lord, You said any man be in You is a new creature, for the old has passed away, and all things become new. Lord, may we fulfill our dreams, goals, and endeavors in accordance with the plans You have made for us – with peace of mind, calmness of spirit, and happiness of heart. And Lord, we know You are doing a new thing – a Kainos thing. Thank You, Lord, for hearing, answering, and fulfilling this prayer in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

May God bless us, keep us, and resonate righteousness within us, in the Name of our Lord Jesus. Amen!
